Books
Johann Gutenberg's revolutionary printing press (invented to reproduce the Bible), developed in the 1450s, forever changed the world's access to information and knowledge. Design of books therefore has a long, distinguished history and is a specialty well loved by designers.
Magazines and Newspapers
Magazines are an offshoot of books, first seen in the 1700s. They began as platforms for opinions held by the editor/publisher. Newspapers have a similar history, although they appeared earlier.
